Arvida Celebrates its Heritage in Collaboration Rio Tinto
The second edition of Arvida fête son patrimoine, Arvida’s heritage celebration event, took place on 5 September. The city of Arvida was built around the Rio Tinto facilities almost a century ago. Rio Tinto was a proud partner of the event, given its position at the heart of the community and as part of Arvida’s historical heritage. The event was also a great way to celebrate the 95th anniversary of Arvida Works. A team from Rio Tinto attended the event to chat with people and to tell them about its involvement in the community.
The event featured a wide range of activities, including an open house at the Arvida Heritage Centre, exhibits, door prizes, a family rally, actors from the Rencontres patrimoniales d’Arvida, guided tours of the heritage site, and bus tours of Rio Tinto’s outdoor facilities.
“One of the most popular activities was without a doubt the shuttle tours of the Rio Tinto facilities,” said Marianne Salesse-Côté, Support Officer at the Arvida Heritage Centre. “All seven of our scheduled departures were full and people came out in force. The Rio Tinto team was on site from beginning to end, and one of the guides was even a retiree from the plant.”
An event that will grow
The popularity of the celebration has persuaded the Arvida Heritage Centre to keep improving the event. Salesse-Côté added, “We are already thinking about the next edition, because we want to continue to bring together the people from the community, and we would also like to attract more young people by offering new activities. Being immersed in the community develops a sense of belonging and helps create memories.” Indeed, this event celebrates Arvida’s rich heritage while adding to its ongoing history.
