Renewal of our Green Marine Certification

The port facilities recently had their Green Marine certification renewed. Level 5, the highest level of certification, was achieved for all indicators except for residual materials management, which reached level 4.

What is the North American Green Marine environmental certification program?

Founded in 2007, this program stems from a voluntary effort by the marine industry to exceed existing regulations to ensure that member sites take exemplary steps to respect the environment. Fourteen performance indicators are assessed as part of the certification process. To date, a total of 150 ship owners, port authorities, Seaway corporations, terminal operators and shipyard managers across Canada and the United States participate in the program.

The certification process is rigorous and transparent. The results are independently verified every two years, and each company’s performance is made public annually. Green Marine certification is valid for two years.
