Four Water Refill Stations for Festivalgoers This Summer

Summer is in full swing, and events, shows and festivals are popping up all over the region. To join in the excitement surrounding the return of live events, Rio Tinto is supporting fans and festivalgoers by installing water bottle refill stations at event sites.

The Rio Tinto partnership has allowed music festivals Jonquière en musique, Festival International des Rythmes du monde (FIRM) and Festirame, as well as the Traversée internationale du lac Saint-Jean, to take a step forward for the environment by encouraging attendees to use reusable water bottles while limiting the use of single-use plastics.

Each event site will host a Rio Tinto-branded water refill station made of aluminium, an infinitely recyclable material. Thousands of guests will be able to stay hydrated and go green at the same time.

“Rio Tinto is proud to support a number of Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean festivals in this eco-friendly shift,” says Xuân-Lan Vu, Director, Communities and Communications for Rio Tinto. “Environmentally responsible actions, renewable energy, decarbonisation, recycling, circular economies and supporting the communities where we operate are all core parts of our strategy at Rio Tinto. That’s why this year, we will be partnering with these new water refill stations, known as Source d’eau Rio Tinto, to provide festivalgoers with water throughout each event.”

Sponsoring eco-friendly initiatives makes perfect sense for the organisation and demonstrates the importance of water, an essential resource needed for many of Rio Tinto’s operations, including dams, hydroelectricity and renewable energy.

As part of the partnership, an animated video will be played at the opening of each event, foregrounding Rio Tinto’s commitment to the valorisation and protection of water. A single drop of water can produce five times the hydroelectricity used to provide clean energy and make responsible aluminium.

Rio Tinto encourages festivalgoers to enjoy the many events coming up in the region and to stay hydrated with Rio Tinto’s water refill stations all summer long!
